UK MPs claim £200k in a year for energy bills http://www.energy-broker.co.uk/uk-mps-claim-200k-in-a-year-for-energy-bills/

Hundreds of British MPs have claimed £200,000 of taxpayers’ money in a year to cover the cost of their energy bills, a new report has revealed.

According to an investigation by the Sunday Mirror, some 340 British lawmakers used the parliamentary expenses system in order to pay for powering and heating of their second homes in the 12 months to March.

Tory MP Nadhim Zahawi, who represents the Stratford-Upon-Avon constituency, was found to have made the largest expenses claim of £5,822 to power and heat his estate, over four times the cost of the average household energy bill.

The disclosure comes at a time when many Britons are struggling to cope with the latest price hike in their dual-fuel bills.

The trade union Unison, which serves more than 1.3 million members, said it was “disgraceful” that MPs were claiming expenses for heating their second homes while thousands of families were struggling to pay energy bills.
