As more snow hit the UK today, experts warned that household energy bills may rise later this year because of persistently cold weather has kept wholesale gas prices high.
The cost of gas on the wholesale market, known as the ‘spot’ or ‘day’ price, remained at a high level this week, due to cold weather and low reserves, according to energy broker, Catalyst.
However, prices are expected to fall as warmer weather begins to move in but other energy experts said that ‘recent wholesale prices clearly make price rises more likely’ in the future.
