A full-scale tidal power generator intended at identifying the potential for renewable energy has been unveiled in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK.Tidal Energy has developed the 400kW DeltaStream device, which will be installed in Ramsey Sound.
The company claims that the 150-tonne generator will be among the world’s first grid-connected devices to generate green, sustainable and predictable tidal energy.
The project has been supported by £8m of European Union funding, matched by majority shareholder Eco2.
After a 12-month trial period, TEL will join forces with renewable energy firm Eco2 to install up to nine DeltaStream devices off St Davids Head in Pembrokeshire.
The installations will form a 10MW DeltaStream commercial array, generating enough energy for about 10,000 homes.
Tidal Energy managing director Martin Murphy said: “This is a significant milestone for us as a company and for the industry as a whole.
